What a wild, beautiful, and sometimes crazy life we live and have lived being a Sister in sports. Indeed, only another Sis can fully understand our whole unique story and our real life experiences. It is these challenging, sometimes coveted and often misunderstood stories of being the significant other of a professional athlete and/or someone in the sports world that can sometimes isolate us, even in the best of times.
When I was younger I found myself longing for meaningful connections with others, especially women, to “get” me, and not hold me to such a high, unrealistic ideal as to what they had in their mind about me being married to a professional athlete. I’m sure you get me. Right? Even now, after almost 20 years of retirement for my husband, Rick, who played basketball in the NBA for five years and ten years in Europe, I am still misunderstood. Except now, I am older, wiser and I have done a lot of studying, training and “self” work, and I don’t care that much anymore about what others think. Over the years though, what I have cherished and enjoyed most have been my genuine, authentic relationships I have maintained with a few other Sisters in sports. And now, I have Karen and all of you. It is truly a wonderful feeling and a blessing to be understood by someone who really understands what we go through—the good, the not so good, the challenging, all the moving, and the exceptionally good times…we are here for each other, and that’s a fact.
I have created a fun, out-of-the-box, action-oriented transformation program just for Sisters in Sports. To learn more and connect with me about Sis Coaching please click here!
