Created by Stephanie Paluch and her boyfriend, Ryan Copeland, a former professional baseball player with the St. Louis Cardinals, Players for Pits (PFP) is a non-profit organization outside of Chicago that is against animal abuse and neglect. PFP was created as a means to help raise money for the rescuers that helped save their own pit bull, Miley, but has since grown into much more. Players for Pits now connects the community with close to 30 professional athletes and their significant others who take a stand against the abuse and neglect of animals. These athletes and families involved actively support the rescue efforts and help by spreading the word of dogs in need.
Players for Pits doesn’t just raise awareness and funding, they are totally hands-on. It is the mission of Players for Pits to educate dog owners about proper pet care – both physical and mental – so that the dogs in their care can be happy, well balanced members of society. It is also their goal to rescue dogs from high kill shelters and place them in loving homes – both foster and permanent. PFP stands up for pit bulls, whose character is routinely tarnished and often misrepresented. They want people to recognize the pit bull for what it is, a DOG, and any dog with the right care and owners can be a wonderful pet. While they are advocates for pit bulls, they do not discriminate based on breed and will take in any dog that needs help. Standing up for those who are abused is their mission….preventing further cruelty and pet abandonment is their goal!

Players for Pits holds fundraising and adoption events at least once a month at local pet stores. The funding raised helps pay for foster care and rescue missions. PFP has had several successful events recently and have more coming up. Check out their “events” page to see where you can find them next: http://www.playersforpits.com/#!events/c1kkw.
